Vote for the next feature at lyntron.com

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Currently we’re conducting a survey we want to know what you want next out of lyntron.com.   As an authorized distributor you currently have the ability to cast your vote.  In order to access the survey, simply login to the site as normal and go to the home page.  You then should be able to see the survey located in the middle right portion of the screen.  Once you’ve casted your vote you’ll be able to see the current results of what other distributors have voted for.  I can tell you that as of right now (4/14/2010) the overwhelming opinion is for Online Order Tracking.

Once your vote is cast you won’t have the chance to go back and resubmit it.  So make it count!  We’ll keep this survey up on the homepage for about a month or two then we’ll put another one up.

Lyn-Tron Website Part II

Monday, March 1st, 2010

The website has been released for about 6 months and in that time we have noticed a lot of interesting things.  I would have to say that the overall response has been overwhelmingly positive.  Now that some time has passed, we have begun to focus our attention elsewhere on the site.  We want to produce some really cool apps that would directly help you become more productive with Lyn-Tron.

I hope that people who have distributor internet accounts have already taken advantage of Lyn-Tron’s online pricing and conformity statements.  In the coming months, Lyn-Tron is going to continue to develop the site by creating L.O.D.A.’s.  A Lyn-Tron Online Desktop Application (or L.O.D.A. as we call it) will revolutionize the way that our customers interact with Lyn-Tron.  By creating online widgets, our customers will be able to quickly keep up with orders and increase productivity directly from lyntron.com.  As the site expands, so does the need for help.  Currently, we are conducting surveys with our customer base to see if there are different forms of communications to help enhance your experience at lyntron.com.

If there are any suggestions that you would like to see on lyntron.com please don’t hesitate to leave a message on this blog.  We want to develop applications that our users want to use and would be helpful.

Thanks again-

Lyn-Tron Representative and Distributor Map

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

We have a new representative and distributor map! Using Google Maps API, Lyn-Tron has created a great tool for locating local representatives and distributors. Starting from the home page, you will find a tab in the middle of the page labeled “FIND A REP OR DISTRIBUTOR”. On this tab you will find  a text box to enter a zip code and a drop down box to specify distance. You can use that if you are looking in a specific area. If you just want to browse map you can click on “search by state”.

In this example I have chosen to search by state. There will be a drop down box filled with state names. Choosing one of these states will center the map on that location and zoom to an appropriate level. You will also notice that markers have been place on the map. These markers represent distributors and representatives, red markers and blue markers respectively. On the left side of the screen the companies will be listed starting with reps and then the distributors. Clicking on a rep or distributor will center the map on there location and zoom appropriately.

Getting Squeaky Clean With SOAP

Monday, August 24th, 2009

In today’s world, technology is readily available on your iPod, Blackberry, and laptops. Recently, I read on an Internet blog that the Seattle Post-Intelligencer would be stopping their paper distribution and going to an Internet based publication only. This marks a 146 year tradition that ended. If a major newspaper organization recognizes that today’s readers are wanting news instantly, then why shouldn’t Lyn-Tron make as much data as possible available to their distributors?

SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) provides the ability to exchange complex data in a very quick and efficient manor over the Internet. SOAP is uniformly accepted by the world’s leading web browsers thus making it a perfect application for today’s hand held devices. We, at Lyn-Tron, began to develop software that utilizes SOAP and XML-RPC. For those distributors who are looking for an API, they don’t have to wait much longer. The project is already in the works. We are planning to start Beta testing with selected distributors by the end of this summer.

Until the API is complete, did you know that Lyn-Tron already offers On-line Pricing and Availability (authorized distributors only) along with a free version or our Catalog?

An Estimators Hello

Monday, August 10th, 2009

First off, I would like to thank and congratulate our I.T department on the wonderful job they have done with our new website.  They have met and succeeded all of our expectations in creating this state of the art website that will help Lyn-Tron, and most importantly our customers.

At Lyn-Tron, we have always strived to make the best quality products at the best competitive price.  Thanks to our machinists and manufacturer’s broad knowledge and skills, we are able to produce the best quality parts in the industry.  Here in the sales department, we as estimators try to give our customers the lowest, most competitive prices possible.  During these hard times, we have been working tirelessly in making sure our prices are suitable for the customer.  We know that our customers need great quality parts at a great price.  Please let us know of anything that we can do to help you.

As a basketball nut that bleeds purple and yellow, I must finish by saying GO LAKERS! 2009 NBA Champs! I think Kobe has silenced all of his critics and is ready for another championship next year.

Lyn-Trons New Online Pricing Page

Price Screenie

In this article I will go over some of the new features in pricing. We wanted to leave the pricing as easy to use as the previous pricing, but also wanted to add functionality that would allow users to get a little more information, if they desired.

The first thing you may notice is that everything is on one page. We believe you will find that staying on one page will make pricing feel more like a desktop application and therefore making the user experience more comfortable. You will find small, info icons located on the page. Hovering over these icons will give the user more information about that section of pricing.

Searching for parts is still simple. You can enter in a complete Lyn-Tron Part ID or a partial Part ID. Searching for ST9412-00 will return one result. Once you have your result(s) you may then click details. Clicking on details will then display the pricing matrix (based on the quantity requested), availability of the part(based on the quantity requested), and some other miscellaneous info about the part. This would be considered a pretty straightforward search. The new page will allow a couple other ways to search. Lets say you want to search for an aluminum round standoff. You could search for something like AL5071-3050-03.0-00, that will return one part. You can modify that search to return all thread sizes by searching for AL5071-____-03.0-00. Each underscore is a wild card. This will return all 6mm round aluminum standoffs with a length of 3mm. If you were to leave the material code off the front like so 5071-3050-03.0-00, you are now searching for all materials.

Hope you have enjoyed this brief introduction to the new Lyn-Tron pricing page. Check back soon for more tutorials.

The New Lyn-Tron Website Part I

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Lyn-Tron, Inc., your leader in the electronic and component hardware industry, is proud to announce its release of the new lyntron.com website. There are several new enhancements that you’ll see right off the bat. First, would be a much more functional home page.

Along the top of the home page you’ll find some very relevant links discussing; new and exciting custom projects, manufacturing capabilities and capacities, and a thoroughly comprehensive RoHS and WEEE directives portion. Along the right side of the page you will see three distinct and permanent links, the first being Lyn-Tron’s complete online catalog. Within this catalog you can custom build over 160,000 different parts that Lyn-Tron can manufacture. Custom Projects and Technical are also listed for you to choose.

We have also provided a “quick reference” search for some very important information located directly in the middle of the page. Parts # Cross Reference, Parts # Lookup, Find a Rep or Distributor, and Distributor Login. All provide “get detail” readily available for you at any time. Next to these tabs you’ll find the “feature sets.”

These “feature sets” revolve weekly as we want to share new information with all of our customers. This information will contain vital information about numerous different things. Some of which being: RoHS, WEEE, new product lines, additional plating options, promotional codes and even giveaways. I would highly suggest that you book mark lyntron.com today and refer back to it often.

Finally, lyntron.com is offering blogs. For those of you still under a rock, what I’m writing here is a blog. For Lyn-Tron, it is a short document talking about why Lyn-Tron is the industry leader. Check back here every Monday morning to see the latest news from Lyn-Tron.

I hope that you enjoy the new site. We’ve worked very hard to listen to our customer’s concerns over that last couple of years and hopefully we have molded this site to best fit their needs. Thanks again!
