Glossary of Industry Terms
Below is a small representation of terms that are often found in our industry
Spacers - Clear hole, non-threaded item.
- Hex or round material.
- Unplated metal, plated metal or nylon.
- Used as a bushing or where an unthreaded rod or threaded screw needs to pass through.
Standoff Female/Female - Threaded part
- Hex or round material.
- Unplated, plated metal, or nylon
- Used in applications where boards or other items need to be fastened to each other.
- Note: not all female/female standoffs are threaded through. Call Lyn-Tron to confirm if the standoff you need is threaded through, or if it is a blind tap.
Standoff Male/Female - Threaded part.
- Hex or round material.
- Unplated, plated metal, or nylon.
- Most male lengths are standard sizes depending on the thread specified.
- Female tap depths are also standard.
- Call Lyn-Tron if different male and/or female dimensions are needed.
- In male/female standoffs the male length is constant and the body length changes.
Swage Spacers - Clear hole swage part
- Hex or round material
- Unplated or plated metal
- Used in applications calling for a roll over swage.
- Not threaded and have a clear hole.
Swage Standoffs - Threaded swage part.
- Hex or round
- Unplated or plated metal
- Used in applications calling for a threaded part with a roll over swage.
Super Torque Spacer or Standoff
- Knurl at the base of the shank that will drive into the board and allow better fastening ability
- See swage standoffs/spacers for further information
Jack Screw - Male/Female part
- 3/16 hex material.
- Unplated or plated metal
- Unlike male/female standoffs, with a jackscrew the body remains the same length and the male length changes.
