Male-Male Standoffs
Male-male standoffs have male threads on each end allowing for the connection of 2 female threaded components together. As a result, they are often utilized as an adapter for other components as these standoffs can come with either the same sized threads, or different sized external threads on each end. Furthermore, the unthreaded hex body of these connectors provides for easy wrench tightening for a solid connection between components.
Male-male standoffs are available in a wide variety of materials, platings, and thread combinations for your unique applications. Material options include:
Common customization options include, custom lengths and thread sizes. If you have any other unique needs, other changes can easily be incorporated into production.
Applications for Male-Male Standoffs
Standoffs were developed as electronics evolved and became more complex in the number of components and circuit boards being used. Designers and engineers needed to add strength and rigidity to the assembly.
Spacers were first used for this purpose and allowed for a screw to pass through the spacer and board and then being attached with a nut. This worked well when only stacking a few boards and/or doing smaller quantity production.
When production volumes increased, standoffs were designed for faster assembly as they reduced the number of fasteners needed and made stacking several boards together more feasible.
These same benefits were quickly picked up on by other industries and standoffs are now found in medical devices, aerospace, electronics, industrial designs, consumer goods and many other applications.
What Makes Male-Male Standoffs Unique?
The key difference between male-male standoffs, and other standoffs is simply that they have a male connector at both ends. Because of this, they are used to connect 2 female threaded components together, like a female-female standoff or the female end of a male-female standoff.
They are commonly utilized as thread adapters to convert a female thread to a male thread. Furthermore, because the male ends can have a different thread size on each end, they can also serve as adapters to connect parts of different sizes, thus providing you with a wider range of applications.
